Born in Shelby, Neb., Bill Ray was a staff photographer for “Life” magazine. From the New York, Beverly Hills and Paris bureaus, he traveled the world covering major events, wars and personalities. Since “Life” ceased publishing in 1972, Ray’s work has appeared in publications such as “Smithsonian,” “Archaeology” and “Fortune,” including 46 “Newsweek” covers.
